Gaming

I have been gaming as long as I can remember. My first console was the N64 and the original Playstation where I would religiously play Lylat Wars, Super Mario 64, Ace Combat 2 & 3 and Re-Volt. My love would only grow after I got my Game Boy Colour and then bought my own Gamecube when I was 11. Star Fox had a deep impact on me, to the point I took my online name from the ace pilot and I still own every Star Fox game ever released. Since then my tastes have only grown and I've played across many genres and fallen in love with a bunch of games, you can check my overall top 10 below.

12/06/26 - Marvel's Midnight Suns

So I finally got around to playing Marvel's Midnight Suns after it sitting in my wishlist for however long. As a fan of XCOM I thought that it'd be worth the try and at worst I'd get some fun comic book game to play. I was quite surprised at how different the game was to XCOM and even more so by how simple the turn-based combat was, while still allowing for indepth strategic plays and options that could see you mowing huge chunks of enemy forces and really making you feel like a superhero.

You are provided with a customisable playable character known as The Hunter, who is one of the massive moving wheels within the overarching story and gives you a way to meet and socialise with some of your favourite characters. The cast is very well written, standouts being Iron Man, Captain Marvel and Blade. There's a friendship system that allows you to deepen your bonds with some of the cast and learn more about them and their histories and motivations. Storm in particular is fascinating to talk to.

The story as well was really fun to go through with a high stakes battle well worth recruiting heavy hitters such as The Hulk, Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange. While you had some of these familiar names from The Avengers and the X-Men, I was also introduced to a group I was unfamiliar with known, as The Runaways, via Nico Minorou, and got to learn a lot about a branch of Marvel I never got to know. I also got introduced to Robbie Reyes, the second Ghost Rider, who was very happy go lucky in contrast to his counterpart, Johnny Blaze.

All in all I had a great time with Midnight Suns save for one very frustrating crash that happnened in the final boss fight that was unavoidable and forced me to have to start the whole final sequence from the very beginning. If you like Marvel, like strategy and want to have a good time, then Marvel's Midnight Suns could be right up your alley.
