Project Hail Mary - 28/05/2026

Holy shit! PHM was a once in a generation film! If there's a film that I could wipe from memory so I could watch it for the first time all over again, it would be this one.

Ryan Gosling's performance as Ryland Grace was just amazing throughout the film and even better was how he played off Rocky. Rocky alone could be an entire argument for why practical effects will always be superior to CGI, (looking at you Andor to back this up!). For anyone unaware, production actually used a puppet for Rocky and the work translates so well to screen. I honestly think the dynamic between the two would not have been as effective or endeared to the audience as much had Rocky been CGI.

They also nailed the perspective of space, because that scene where Grace looked out into the void on his first space walk and just went "nope" was completely understandable. Space is utterly terrifying because if you lose your grip on that ship with no anchor, you're done. No passing go and collecting £200, no get out of jail free card, you are dead, dead.

I'm obviously being broadly vague here simply because, if you haven't seen the film, close this page and go see it in the cinema while you still can. ...Why are you still here? GO! GO! GO!

Well holy crap! It's my first blog post on this site! Hello everyone and welcome to my digital construction site. Don't mind the mess, I'll clean it up eventually. Just in case you've missed the little intro above; hi, I'm Hayden or Falco_77, I answer to both.

I'm massively into nerd culture. I love building PCs, watching film, TV & anime, gaming and streaming. In my "day" job I work in TV in a variety of roles and timezones. Around all of that I also write Sci-Fi and Fantasy stories which I'm currently posting on AO3 but I aim to start posting here chapter by chapter.

I'll leave it there for now as most of today has been spent trying to stay cool and reorganising the site. Hope you all enjoy swinging by here and I'll post again when I've got something interesting to share! Take care!
